December 30, 2009 in News by Mycstea

After the 2 grueling days of the competition, WGP 2009 has finally ended. Even though Kai and Chris were not the champion of WGP 2009, i would say that they have brought back glory to both Singapore and Malaysia nonetheless.

The start of a new beginning.

On the 26th of December 2009 the biggest Bushiroad card game event, World Grand Prix 2009 happened at Akiba Square right beside Akihabara Station. The event hall was huge, and with the final numbers in, a total wooping 3125 participants.

There was a huge mass of people at the area and it was exciting to see so many players assembled at the area. There was a big judge meeting before the event and i managed to get to know the head judge (more of that afterwards). More familiar faces include Shimamura-san, producer of WS card game, and also Kuroda-san, the international PR representative, Vice President of the company Kurokawa-san and definitely, the President of the company itself, Kidani-san.

Also, the schedule of the day:

We also got the chance to know the many different organisors and facilitators for other country’s WGP. Silver-san and Ken-san from Hong Kong, under Mr Ko’s command, as well as Ken-san (other) who is the facilitator of Kaede, who writes on this blog. Last but not least, we met the champion of WS WGP09 Hong Kong branch, Raymond.

From left, Raymond from Hong Kong, Chris from Malaysia as well as Kai from Singapore

As the event is about to start, Kidani-san introduced the representatives to the Japanese players whom were shocked that Kai and Chris spoke in Japanese to introduce themselves. I took it in video form but forgive me, i took this from a camera.

Following that are photographs of the WGP participants. These players are selected from various different states as well as individual cup championships. A total of 32 players and guests were present, of whom, 2 players are actually idols from Card Gakuen (more on that in a bit as well, unfortunately i cannot take any photographs of them playing due to their rules about photography).

The Mash-san, Tokui-san (seiyuu) and their companion in the Trio Cup tournament. All their opponents received a special Takeshi promotional card!

Hong Kong Representative and his first game. Bad situation but he won the first game anyways. Raymond was using his favoured Miharu and Nemu deck. As he is friendly and open minded, we all became friends very quickly

Kai’s first game. He had overpowering situation but the mistake of bringing out Carim to fight cost him the game… as it got hit to the top of his deck by Level 3 Haruka… Fukou da…

Chris played his first game with his Shining Force deck against Yamashita Wakana, an idol from Card Gakuen (previously Akira from Lucky Star). Unfortunately i cannot take photographs of her thus… such an angle wwww

After a grueling 5 games (+1 friendly/tiebreaker), unfortunately all 3 foreign representatives did not make it to the top 6. Kai won 2 games out of 6 games, Raymond won 3 out of his 6 games and Chris won 4 out of his 6 games.

Chris however, did managed to make it to the top 10 players of the game and even though Kai and Raymond did not do as well as they expected, we are still proud to have you guys as the representatives as you have fought against the best in Japan and still prevailed.

Finally WGP ended and these are the winners of the tournament.

That ends it for the report for 26th December’s WGP 2009 day 1. The next report will be regarding the trial deck tournament in day 2, as well as comic market mini report!
